FOREST ABSTRACT CO.
The principle title evidence was abstracts, which is all the instruments recorded in the County referring to a designated parcel of land typed out in a condensed form and chronological order. Title insurance is used extensively at this time, but abstracts are still used. Forest Abstract Company became agents for Chicago Title Insurance Company since 1964. Computerization was started in 1985 and has been widely extended.
When the lakes started to be developed in the 1920s, maps of every lot on the diverse lakes were mad and every lot received its individual chain of title. There are now hundreds of these maps covering every lake and the other land that has been sub divided in the company’s office. The company also maintains of copies of all certified survey maps and recorded plats.
Numerous of the early abstract companies were combined into the Forest Abstract Company. S. J. Conway, Abstractor was operated from 1918 to 1942, when it was taken over by Wright Lombard Abstractor. The Paul Woodbury Abstract was operated from 1938 to 1942 when it was united with Wright Lombard Abstractor. In 1951 Bette Conway took over the Lombard Abstract and operated it until 1959, when they were all united into the Forest Abstract Company. This included all records the preceding abstract companies had.
They cannot determine the exact time that these records were made. Yet, from an examination of these Tract Books they find entries made in a different handwriting and color of ink. The earliest record entry they find was dated January 13, 1901. Because of the time it musts have taken to enter all the previous records, it is obvious that this was started as least in 1900.
The title insurance objective is to protect the parties concerned about real state deals by determining their rights and interests as well as to ensure the safe and sudden transfer of property.
