Debevoise and Plimpton LLP was founded in New York in 1931. Debevoise prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary, recognizing many of its historic traditions that remain an essential part of the firm today. From 1951 to 1953, founding partner Whitney Debevoise served as general counsel to the United States High Commissioner for Germany and as Acting Deputy High Commissioner. From 1961 to 1965, founding partner Francis Plimpton served as deputy representative to the United Nations. The New York office, located in midtown Manhattan, is Debevoise’s largest office and the headquarters for the firm’s multi-disciplined, international practice.
