JCT Title Services

In 1903 Jasper County Title Company, Inc. was incorporated to do business certifying abstracts in Carthage, Missouri. The first Joplin office opened in the 1920's located in the Cunningham Building. Being that this location is in Newton County they started doing business as JCT Title Services. There are two branches, 135 East 3rd on the square in Carthage, and Lawrence County Title Services at 103 S. Market Street on the square in Mt. Vernon. JCT was purchased in December of 1988 by Nancy Good who has 21 years of experience in the real estate field. She came to work at Jasper County Title Company in May, 1978.

The mid 1980's saw the abstract business leave Jasper County as demand simply stopped and Title Insurance became the standard in the real estate market. The 1990's finds JCT now a title insurance agency which issues policies not only in Jasper County but throughout Southwest Missouri via affiliations with agents in the Missouri Land Title Association. JCT was a forerunner in the title insurance business as it issued its first title policy on March 20, 1947. Today JCT represents Chicago Title Insurance Company, Lawyers Title Insurance Company and Old Republic Title Company in Jasper, Newton, and Lawrence Counties. They also represent First American Title Company in Lawrence County.

Protection against hazards of title is available through a unique coverage known as title insurance. Unlike other kinds of insurance that focus on possible future events and charge an annual premium, title insurance is purchased for a one-time payment and is a safeguard against loss arising from hazards and defects already existing in the title. The amount of lender's title insurance decreases and eventually disappears as the loan is paid off. Most lenders require mortgagee title insurance as security for their investment in real estate, just as they may call for fire insurance and other types of coverage as investor protection.

Only title insurance issued through members of the American Land Title Association offer the unique safeguards that are essential for secure investment by both real estate purchasers and lenders. Make sure you are fully protected. Insist on a title insurance policy.
