In 1958 Preferred Risk Life was established to provide life coverage for non drinkers. The country's first multiple peril package policy for churches was introduced in 1962 and the sales force grew to four hundred seventy five agents. By 1966, the groups’ life insurance products were actively sold in twenty nine states with over nine hundred agents. Toward the end of the decade, the company moved to a new home office constructed in West Des Moines. Preferred Risk Mutuals’ name is now changed to Guide One Insurance.

The company is recognized as the nations’ largest insurer of churches based on written premium.
