Union Standard Insurance Group is one of four W.R. Berkley regional operations, offering preferred commercial property and casualty insurance products and services. They serve independent insurance agents located throughout nine states like Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. They have employees located in nine offices to serve their agents and their customers.
Health Insurance offer major medical coverage to all full time employees through a self insured plan administered by Cigna. It is a 200 dollars deductible policy that pays 80 percent of the first 5,000 dollars in claims and 100 percent above 5,000 dollars. The maximum out of pocket expense is 1200 dollars per year per person. Family deductible of 500 dollars may apply. There is 30 day waiting period for coverage to go into effect.
Each full time employee is provided with a life insurance policy with the face amount equal to one and one half of their salary. As salary increases, so does the amount of coverage. There is no charge for this policy. Coverage is effective 30 days after employment. The Company provides each full time employee with a long term disability policy that will pay up to 60 percent of the employee's salary if they are disabled and cannot work after a 90 day elimination period. This plan is coordinated with Social Security benefits.
The Company aggressively supports professional insurance education by encouraging their employees to take IIA or CPCU courses. They pay for tuition, books, and examinations. As an additional incentive, bonuses are paid to employees who pass exams, complete programs, and attain designations.
The Company recognizes that a wide range of personal issues not directly associated with job functions may affect job performance. In many instances, employees and family members may overcome these personal situations independently with little or no effect on performance. However, counseling assistance may be needed for some.
