Builders Insurance Company, Inc.

In November of 1995, 12 plumbers and a general contractor were so fed up with Nevada’s monopolistic worker’s compensation bureaucracy that they broke away from SIIS now EICON to form Nevada Contractors Network Self-Insured Group.

It was not without risk, and pretty amazing, since each member pledged to pay each other’s losses in the event there wasn’t enough money in the claims fund. That knew from day one that loss control and claims handling were going to make or break the group. Possibly, it would make or break their own businesses.

The Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nevada Contractors Insurance Company, Inc, was started by contractors for contractors and is one of the largest worker's comp carriers in Nevada. They offer comprehensive safety and loss control programs at no extra cost and last year trained more than one thousand insureds on a variety of safety subjects.

They offers to it's insureds a complete and comprehensive safety program that includes OSHA accepted written safety programs, safety training, and job site inspections. Ron Landram, Director of Risk Services-Nevada, says that BIC's safety program is the best he has ever seen. Of course he's a bit prejudiced, having designed it. But he may be allowed a little pride, since the results have been extraordinary.

Landram is a former OSHA Regional Compliance Supervisor who brings a wealth of experience and training to BIC's safety programs. BIC is the only insurance company in Nevada who can partner your company with the very people who wrote the book. One of the ways BIC fights fraud is through the use of Claims Packets. These are documents that are given to injured workers at the time of a claim. Inside are report forms and questions for the worker, supervisor, and any witnesses.

Builders Insurance uses this packet as a way to control workers comp claims. It's just another way that BIC watches out for your bottom line. Because the company began as a Self Insured Group, BIC's customers were Members. From that, an attitude of value added benefits that are normally associated with an association has been the core philosophy behind BIC's every endeavor with free safety training.
