The Howick Farmer's Mutual was organized in 1873, the result of a public meeting at the home of David Bradnock, to serve the needs of the population of the surrounding area. The first President was James Edgar, and William McKercher the first Secretary Manager.
Howick Mutual is an Ontario Mutual Insurance Company located in Wroxeter, Ontario. They are a locally owned and operated insurance company governed by a Board of 6 Directors elected by their Policyholders. Daily business is conducted by a staff of 14 including managers, accounting staff, underwriters, claims representatives, loss prevention officers and support personnel.
The mutual aspect of their company is that their policyholders are ultimately the most important aspect of their existence. There are no profits paid to outside shareholders as they are 100 percent owned by their policyholders. Policyholders within the mutual system determine the future of the company through electing company directors from their ranks to help set company policy and determine company operating procedures.
Howick Mutual has on staff two full time loss prevention officers who can come to your home, farm or commercial business and help you examine your property for any potentially dangerous situations. Both of their inspectors have worked in the electrical, construction and agricultural fields; both are familiar with the legal and safety requirements of woodstoves, fireplaces and other heat sources; and both continuously upgrade their skills to ensure that they can help you make your property as safe as it can be.
