Baldwin & Lyons also accepts cessions and retrocessions from selected insurance and reinsurance companies, principally reinsuring against catastrophes. The company markets nonstandard private passenger automobile liability, small fleet trucking insurance, nonaffiliated assumption reinsurance, and property/casualty losses and loss adjustment expenses.
B&L's subsidiaries are Protective Insurance Company, with licenses in all 50 states and all Canadian provinces Sagamore Insurance Company, which is currently licensed in 45 states; and B & L Insurance, which is domiciled and licensed in Bermuda. Protective, Sagamore and B & L Insurance serve various specialty markets, including large fleet trucking liability, voluntary assumption reinsurance, and private passenger automobile and small fleet trucking insurance.
