Park City, Utah, February 14, 2006 - The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: HIG), the founding partner of the U.S. Paralympics, will again sponsor the U.S. Disabled Alpine Championships, the final U.S. competition prior to the IX Winter Paralympic Games in Torino, Italy. This is the second consecutive year that The Hartford has sponsored the event.

Held from Feb. 13-17 at the Park City Mountain Resort in Park City, Utah, The Hartford U.S. Disabled Alpine Championships will feature races in four skiing disciplines for men and women. The schedule is as follows:

Monday, Feb. 13 - Men's and women's Super G

Wednesday, Feb. 15 - Men's and women's Downhill

Thursday, Feb. 16 - Men's and women's Giant Slalom

Friday, Feb. 17 - Men's and women's Slalom

"We hope everyone who watches The Hartford U.S. Disabled Alpine Championships will appreciate the exceptional talent and ability of these world-class athletes, many of whom will represent the U.S. on the world stage at the Paralympic Games," said Dick Mucci, executive vice president and director of The Hartford's Group Benefits Division. "The Hartford proudly supports the men and women of the U.S. Paralympics because they demonstrate our belief that by focusing on abilities - not perceived physical limitations - individuals can achieve success in sports, the workplace and all aspects of life."

"We're really excited that The Hartford has returned as our title sponsor of this event, providing financial support for this important national championship competition and Paralympic tune-up, as well as sending a group to support our racers and gain a better understanding of what it takes to be a paralymian," said Ted Morris, vice president of sales and marketing for USSA.

Approximately 30 employees and business partners of The Hartford, a leading disability insurer, will attend the races and get a first-hand view of the paralymic experience from team members and coaches of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA).

"In addition to witnessing world-class competition, our business partners will gain a deeper understanding of disability-related issues through educational seminars at The U.S. Disabled Alpine Championships," said Mucci.

At the conclusion of the championship in Park City, many racers, including recent World Cup champion Laurie Stephens, will head to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., to prepare for the Paralympic Games, which take place March 10-19 in Torino, Italy. This year, 1,300 athletes, coaches and guides from 40 countries will attend the Paralympic Games.
