Metlife Contributes to Tsunami Relief Efforts

NEW YORK, January 5, 2005 – MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) announced today that MetLife Foundation will make a $1 million contribution to the American Red Cross’s International Response Fund to help in the relief efforts in the various countries affected by the recent tsunami in South Asia.

"The earthquake and tsunami that killed and injured hundreds of thousands of people and left millions homeless have saddened us all," said Robert H. Benmosche, chairman and chief executive officer of MetLife, Inc. "MetLife is joining its associates around the world who are generously contributing to the relief efforts that are bringing much needed aid to these affected areas."

MetLife Foundation was established by MetLife to carry on the company’s longstanding tradition of corporate contributions and community involvement.
