Human Rights Campaign Foundation Names Metlife a 'Best Place to Work'

Nation’s #1 Life Insurer Recognized for Giving Choices to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Job Seekers

NEW YORK, January 30, 2006 – MetLife, the largest life insurer in the U.S., has been named to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s (HRC) newly released "Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality" list, a new online resource that gives job seekers the information they need to find out which employers support gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees and consumers.

The list of over 100 companies is based on data from the HRC’s 2005 Corporate Equality Index, an annual report card on corporate America’s treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors. MetLife has received a perfect score of 100% on the Corporate Equality Index every year since 2003.

Companies on the HRC’s Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality list are rated on a scale from zero to 100 on key criteria, including protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, parity of health care benefits for domestic partners and other criteria. Only companies with a perfect score of 100 percent were included in the list.

"We are extremely honored to have been selected as a ‘Best Place to Work’ by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation," said Debra J. Capolarello, senior vice president and chief talent officer, MetLife. "At MetLife, diversity is a business imperative in our workforce, the workplace and the marketplace. As a company whose mission is to build financial freedom for everyone, we recognize that everyone has unique financial needs and the best way to understand those needs is to recruit a diverse and talented workforce."

"It is because of the courageous leadership of companies like MetLife that millions of workers today have protections they would have only dreamed of a few years ago," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. "Corporate America is leading the way towards equality by enacting policies that send a clear signal they value all of their employees. We welcome the leadership of MetLife, which has earned a perfect rating on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index since 2003."
